{"id":242,"date":"2011-09-18T18:49:11","date_gmt":"2011-09-18T18:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madprogrammer76.wordpress.com\/?p=242"},"modified":"2011-09-18T18:49:11","modified_gmt":"2011-09-18T18:49:11","slug":"what-is-trending-are-you-listening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/andrewpallant.ca\/wordpress\/what-is-trending-are-you-listening\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Trending &#8211; Are you listening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do you know what is trending today? \u00a0 Do you know what is new? \u00a0Do you care?<\/p>\n<p>As developers we live in a crazy world where technologies and ideas fly at the speed of light. \u00a0If you are not paying attention you will miss out on the new ideas.<\/p>\n<p>Hash-tags, Twitter, blogs, LinkedIn and Facebook; these are some tools of the modern world and they can help define our chosen professions. \u00a0If you have not embraced these fore mentioned tools, you will miss out. \u00a0How are you keeping up? \u00a0Are you relying on your everyday work or are you digging into the realms of social media to see what is trending? \u00a0The printed press like magazines, journals and newspapers are not cutting any more because of the pace of change. \u00a0By the time you read it, it is history.<\/p>\n<p>Social media is trending the new ideas, tools and techniques at a pace that is baffling. \u00a0If you are a developer and you have not embraced social media, you are probably missing out on a lot of great stuff. \u00a0Managers are now asking you in interviews; How you are learning new things and keeping in the know? \u00a0If you are not saying social media as a tool, you would be foolish. \u00a0It is great to ramble of magazine names and school courses, but most of what is learned there I consider as historical background knowledge; you need social media to enhance your\u00a0knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>Are you looking for the next great idea?<\/p>\n<p>Here are some interesting trends to watch:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/hashtags.org\/technology\">http:\/\/hashtags.org\/technology<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/hashtags.org\/development\">http:\/\/hashtags.org\/development<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/hashtags.org\/social%20media\">http:\/\/hashtags.org\/social%20media<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/hashtags.org\/software%20development\">http:\/\/hashtags.org\/software%20development<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/hashtags.org\/ideas\">http:\/\/hashtags.org\/ideas<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>There are a million of trends happening every second of every day. \u00a0Pick one or two a day and watch. \u00a0If you find something interesting dig for it and dig deep. \u00a0LinkedIn also has groups that could help you define who you are, what you want to do and how to do it. \u00a0 \u00a0There is a lot happening and you will never know what will trigger your next big idea. \u00a0 Once you have watched, participate and that is the ultimate way of learning what is new.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you know what is trending today? \u00a0 Do you know what is new? \u00a0Do you care?
